Driver Reviver or a driver updater program?

Hello. I'm new to this forum and look forward to learning more about windows 8.1.

One thing I'm wondering is whether the application Driver Reviver or similar driver updater is good to use? Thank you!

You'll find that the general consensus on this forum (and others) is that these various "driver" programs are not only a waste of time (and in most cases, of money), they can also be harmful, especially when they install the wrong drivers.

Best approach is nearly always to go to the hardware manufacturers to get drivers.

Will checking for updated drivers through computer through device manager result in similar results as using a driver reviver? Said another way, is it safe to try "Update Driver..." from device manager or should drivers primarily be pulled by manufacturer's site...unless there's an issue and driver can only be found elsewhere?

It's ok to use because it's from the hardware manufacturer(not pc, but CPU) but they are generic drivers and not "tweaked" for you specific computer. Using the windows to update is ok, but I have seen people getting problems(although this is rare). Driver´s should only be updated when you need a specific fix, or your current one has become corrupted. Gamers, 3D CAD users and anyone using graphic intensive software such as photo/video editing, should keep their video drivers current, that's about the only exception. Driver fixes/updates usually doesn't give you any new toys to play with or settings, they are just for specific hardware or newer software that needs the fix.

Safer way to do it, through device manager let it check online, but i find it rarely finds anything this way. Yes, best place is your motherboards manufacturer site or PC manufacturer site. Intel Driver Update Utility is safe, i have tried it, but never found anything for me, won't hurt your system. Intel seems to not update often anyway. Other ways are Windows update.
