CPU Temp and Runtime

Hello all,

I am wondering something:

How hot can a CPU be safely run on a consistent basis? Im running Folding@Home on my Dell Latitude E4310 laptop which has a Core i5 540M CPU in it. When running Folding@Home, it hovers between 80-88C and I am worried that this may be slowly damaging the CPU. The laptop is clean. I cleaned all of the dust out of it not too long ago, like 4 weeks ago. Intels website says that the TJMax is 105C. Is it running to hot to be safe for a consistent basis?

No running it hot is not good for it.

That's pretty toasty on a long term basis. Folding@Home must be extremely demanding on the CPU, Their site says it is demanding. If not that many computers are online at a given time but you are, a lot of the number crunching is going to be off-loaded to your computer.
If something you want to keep doing then maybe a good cooling pad will help.

Limit CPU to 80% or around it, depending on the temperature.
Either use https://bitsum.com/processlasso/ or Power Options.
