For the past few months I've had a TV Tuner (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950Q) plugged into my rear USB. Yesterday my computer stopped going to sleep/hibernation instead it would just hang shut off (no BSOD). After 2 hours of trial and error I found the issue was my TV Tuner. What would cause this? Is there a fix?

Windows 8.1 64bit

Motherboard: Z77 Extreme 6

Could have simply gone bad.

Might try uninstall/re-install it, see if that helps. Have you tried a different port?

TV set to power off or on with HDCP handshake on the HDMI, Power Off when nothing is being fed to it via HDMI. How are of a distance are we talking about, between the tv & computer? Also helps for you to post manufacturer & model of the tv. That information you can find on the back of the tv.

All usb based tv tuners are known for being buggy. The PCI/PCIe one's aren't. I've got a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1850 (PCIe x1) in my pc. If you have a desktop pc, see if you can return the usb one you have and get a PCIe x1 one. Have you downloaded the updated driver & software from Hauppage ? When you installed the driver for the tv tuner, did you disable your antivirus software until the tv tuner's driver was installed and you restarted your pc ? That's a must do with any driver. Here's Hauppage's web page for your tuner. Hauppauge Computer Works : WinTV-HVR-950Q Product Description Also, be forewarned since all cable tv providers switched from analog tv to digital tv you're going to need a analog tv to digital tv device from you're cable company.
