Will Windows 8 work on my laptop?

I have the HPDV692ea which I bought back in 2008.
I just wanted to know if windows 8 will run smoothly on my laptop like it does on demonstrations videos I've seen on you tube. Also I've seen it starts ups in a matter of seconds on some laptops, do I need a high end laptop for that or will I get similar start up speeds on the specs my laptop currently has? Thanks!

Hi,

It will run Windows 8 fine. Don't bother with x64. Install x86 (32 bit).

Thanks for the quik reply. Considering the specs of my laptop do you think its worth Upgrading to windows 8 from Windows vista? will I see a massive improvement in speed?

Vista SP2 is a good OS. Massive improvement in speed? Eh, maybe a slight to decent improvement.

What will be better is memory management, giving the machine an overall better feel.

I recommend installing Windows 8 as a dual boot environment so you can keep Vista and remove 8 in the future, if you don't like 8. Or vice-vera - remove Vista after you are satisfied that you like 8.

You can search Brink's tutorials on here about how to do it. It's not difficult. Any questions at all, just ask here.

Eh, forget the search. Here it is: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2344-dual-boot-installation-windows-8-windows-7-vista.html

I have a HP Slate 500 which has a similar spec. Intel Atom 1.86Ghz Processor, 2GB RAM, 64GB HD it came with Windows 7 Professional, after installing Windows 8 I noticed a definate improvement in speed, personally I prefer it over 7 & Vista, but you will need to make your own choice.
