Hi All, I think there's a problem connecting external HDD with windows 8.1 installed on it to a pc with existing windows 8.1.
I've spent a week Investigating this problem and I'm pretty sure about the results, so please be patient reading this ..

I faced many problems with my pc, my windows crashes frequently because of my Raid Array was miss-configured or something like that. However, I decided to have an emergency external windows 8.1 installed on external HDD to boot from and not to waste my time.

I've managed to install 8.1 on the external HDD , booting from it , and every thing gone well.
lately I've managed to properly install 8.1 on my PC (internal HDD) and every thing is going well too Except The Following

Whenever I boot my pc from internal HDD, and connect the external HDD to transfer a file or get something from it, Windows 8 chrome search goes mad, and stops functioning , here are If-Then scenarios I face :

1) boot from internal HDD, reach desktop, then connect external HDD -> Search items disappear and i cannot find items like device manager, disk manager, and others (As shown in the attachments)
2) boot from internal HDD only and not connecting external HDD --> (every thing goes fine and chrome search works).
3) boot from internal HDD with external HDD connected, : I find search items but none of them is clickable !!.

So Waht's this !!?

Thanks All.

Just right click on Start button and chose "Device manager" it will open it for you. Can also be found in Control panel when seen as Large or Small icons. If view is set as "Category", Device Manager is under "Hardware and sound".
Can also start it if you type "devmgmt.msc" in Run command at right click on Start button same as in command prompt.
Alternatively, type diskmgmt.msc in Run command to see all disks and their partitions.

What is that?? The Problem most likely... I have complete access to 4 different OS's on the same or external disk, no matter what OS is loaded

Could it be a problem with permissions or something like that ? Would "take ownership" solve it. ?

If it was windows permissions I would think a UAC message more likely..
