Laptop takes 6 minutes to print over network with Win 8.1

I have two Windows 8.1 PCs, a Dell Desktop XPS8700 and Alienware laptop. I have an HP 2015dn printer connected to the desktop with a parallel to USB cable. Printing from the desktop works fine but over a network from the laptop not so fine.

When I print from the laptop to the attached printer to the desktop, I have to wait six minutes before it actually prints. I can see and select the printer from Word but cannot see the printer listed in Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.

I can print normally to a Brother 2360 printer and a HP 7520 printer wirelessly connected to the network, but not to the one attached to the desktop PC.

I have tried the following:

[FONT=&amp]1. [/FONT]Downloaded and installed the latest print driver from HP Support. The same 64 bit driver is installed on both computers.

[FONT=&amp]2. [/FONT]Added the printer in Devices and Printers. It connects and says it is added but does not show with the rest of the printers. Printing a test page takes six minutes.

[FONT=&amp]3. [/FONT]Adding the printer again in Devices and Printers. Result: It connects and says it is added but does not show with the rest of the printers. Printing a test page takes six minutes.

[FONT=&amp]4. [/FONT]Making sure that the Print Spooler Service is set to automatic. Result: No change.

[FONT=&amp]5. [/FONT]Changed Bluetooth Service is also set to automatic. Result: No change.

Since I cannot see the printer in Devices and Printers in the laptop, how can I remove the driver and re-install it? I do see it in the desktop Devices & Printers and it works fine.

Printing from a Vista laptop to a Vista Dell XPS desktop worked fine over the same network, so I am troubled that I cannot get it to work with Windows 8.1.

I would appreciate any suggestions or help.
