USB SD Card Reader Says 'Please insert Disk'

Hi all, as the title says I bought a SD card reader ( USB 2 0 480 Mbps microSDHC SD SDXC UHS I Memory Card Reader Writer Flash Drive | eBay ) and it's not working. it looks like this currently (Q disk):

Anytime I try to open it it says this:

It's listed as a 'Mass USB Storage Device' in device manager. Can't format it either.

You have the reader but you need an SD/MMC card in it. It's only a reader or adapter, like a DVD player needs a DVD to play.

I do have one inserted, when it's not the Removable Disk goes a bit transparent.

Is the card inserted formatted? Does that card reader require any drivers to be installed? I ask because it reads multiple types of cards.

Formatted it, still not picking up.

What does device manager show? Any yellow ! or red X's?

I have a couple of these, SD-MMC Card Reader. No drivers needed and no issues reading SD cards as of yet. Yours seems a bit more involved and reads many more card types, that's why I wondered if it needed drivers installed.

Nope, comes with no CD and can't seem to find the manufacturer of it.

Morning I just woke up...Is the SD card unlocked? The little tiny white switch on the side. Sometimes when I don't pay attention that happens to me any I wonder why I can't access it.

Yup, card is definitely unlocked. Tried it on my Mom's computer and the card works just fine.

Have you tried that card reader on another PC?

Yea, tried it on a different PC. That time it seemed to also show the SD card along with the adapter but still couldn't access anything.

My guess is its an issue with the card reader, either its defective or it needs drivers to work. You have plugged the SD card in without that reader to verify it works?

Just verified that it's not the card. Any suggestions for a working one?

Depends on what type of cards you use. I only use SD and Micro SD. I already have the Micro SD to SD card adapter.

Mine does that sometimes, but it is because it is old, sometimes just jiggling the SD card works.
