charms coming in at inconvenient times

I have a Sony SVP1321DCXS (VAIO®Pro 13 Ultrabook™) and when searching I saw this "fixed" post I was hopeful. Well, no such luck. Spurious mouse clicks, the Windows 8 charms coming in at inconvenient times, etc., have all lead me to try everything I could to find the setting to disable edge swipes and "touching" doing the same as clicking. No luck. To be clear, I tried the information here and it did not help.

I have now disabled the SMBus driver and uninstalled the Synaptics driver and tried to install the generic Synaptics driver and it "Install failed" without additional detail. The latest driver from Sony is 16.5.3.5 and that is the one I uninstalled. Disable edge swipes is not to be found in that offering. Any advice for how to get the generic driver installed would be appreciated. Or some other Sony driver. Otherwise, the only solution is to use the generic Microsoft mouse pad driver, but then I don't have the option to turn off things like tapping the touchpad inadvertently being a click. In the end I want to:

  • Use the Synaptics driver to add features not available with the generic Windows 8 mouse pad drivers.

  • Turn off the touchpad "touch" stuff. If I want to click, I want to click, not touch. Otherwise when typing fast and I brush the pad who knows what the result might be.

  • Disable edge swipes to turn off the highly annoying Windows 8 charms dancing in and doing whatever they want...
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Phil

Try this.., It does produce a lag, however, when it deactivated charms.

To be clear, I already completely disabled the touch screen on this laptop. You believe your solution will work with the touch pad?

Edited: OK, your post actually says it is for a touch pad, not a touch screen, so I misread it the first time. I will give this a try. It will require me to reinstall the Synaptics driver so I will get back with you tomorrow after I can get back to it. Thanks!
