Drives plugged into USB/SD card slot won't detect/open

I went to plug in a USB external hard drive (via 3.0 slot) and the drive isn't showing up either automatically or on the "This PC" tab.

If I go to the search function and type in "D:" I can find the drive and it's accessible. However, I can't figure out for the life of me why it's not just opening like normal. The same goes for the SD card slot (on a Lenovo Yoga 2)

I did recently install Symantec and got rid of McAfee for A/V protection. Would that affect the auto run with some security setting that I'm missing?

Any help appreciated!

:)

Is it assigned a drive letter though? If it isn't you'll not see it in file explorer.

Can you post a picture of disk management.

I'm having the same problem

Hi all,

I am having the same problem as the OP, and I am having a really tough time finding a solution! Every time I plug in a USB flash drive or an SD card into my computer, I get absolutely no response for windows. The activity lights for both my flash drives and my SD card reader start blinking when I plug stuff in, but nothing from windows. It's only when I go into msconfig and it does a little scan of the system that my devices are finally recognized and an explorer window pops up with the contents of my drives.

Why won't windows auto detect this media? It's driving my crazy!!! If anyone has any ideas about how to fix this I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Chris
