Hello, I have an HP ENVY TS m7 Notebook PC. (Product number: E4S19UA#ABA)

I ocassionally have an issue with the touch pad (Synaptic SMBus click pad ver.17.0.8.0 ). I can't duplicate the problems they just randomly happen. However, I have noticed it happens more often when I have Internet Explorer open and I"m surfing the web. What is happening is the mouse icon just dissappears. If I hit my crtl key, I can see where it is/was. The only way I can do anything at this point is to use the Touch Screen. Another issue I have is that 99% of the time the Scroll feature on the right side of the pad won't scroll. I'm sure it's Software related as this has been doing it from Day 1 on the PC. I brought my first Laptop back and the second one did the exact same thing.

My question would be, Does anyone else have any of thise isses either, and or do you know of a fix?

Key Problems:

  1. Mouse icon randomly dissappears.
  2. Scroll feature on right side of touchpad won't work most of the time.

What I have done:

  1. Completely wiped HDD and started fresh (noumerous times)
  2. Reset touchpad settings to Default.
  3. Made sure only necessary start up programs are running.
  4. Updated Windows
  5. Posted here for help.

Thanks for your time an help!!!

How about updating the drivers Drivers
See note on this page to right, similar issue.

Windows fully updated ? Which browsers ? Some of these types of software put an extension in browser, check there, check settings in browser mattering to which one, could be setting for smooth scrolling, plus other options.

Touchpad Not Working ENVY dv6 Win 8 - Page 2 - HP Support Forum - 2159671

Usability

Yeah, Drivers all all updated,
It was happening a lot with IE and Chrome. I'm wondering if I should try a complete wipe and only put on Windows 8 (not the System Recovery Drive) and only install what I want/need. I'm wondering if there is any bloatware from HP that could be causing this...

I looked at that forum, I'll see if there's a BIOS update....

Thanks~!!!

Be careful, really would not suggest a BIOS update, can be risky may render your system un-bootable.
I saying to check the browsers extensions to this touchpads software if any maybe possible issue could be there.
Even options within the browsers settings itself for scrolling.

What do yo suggest might be an extension I should look for? I don't see anything that's enabled that would cause any Touch Pad issues here..

Extension having to do with mentioned touchpad in IE Tools Manage Add-ons in file menu. Could also be another extension causing it to happen, conflicting. Not sure where to do it in Chrome, since i do not have it. Otherwise a conflicting software on system. A bug in driver for this Touchpad with Windows 8.

Since it seemed to happen with IE this is were i thought it could be related to a add-on or extension. Never asked how does system work without it ( Synaptic SMBus click pad) ? Have a mouse to try on it ? Had a restore point before this happened could of tried going back. Thinking if was compatibility issue with Windows 8 and software should happen with any use not just IE.
If wireless could be something is disturbing the connection at times.

BIOS may solve it, but as said can be risky and i would not want to suggest it, unless talk to HP directly on it first.

Thanks for your help. I have used a USB mouse and it flies around with out any issues. I tried looking for support at Synaptic as well. no luck there.. I uninstalled drivers and restarted, then re-installed and restarted again. and it still does it. I have looked at the extensions/add-on's in IE and there isn't anything that stands out...I will disable everything in there and turn them on one at a time....I'll let you know how I make out...as far as BIOS, I actually think I'm up to date anyway...

Your most welcome for the help, anytime.
Tried many steps, yes, disabling each add on or extension at a time is a good way determine if any are causing this issue. At first i never mentioned to try it with a mouse and not this touchpad, just make sure it wasn't anything with system or Windows 8.
As you saw, it was not, good at least for that part.

Either as said a buggy driver, incompatibility problem with this software drivers and Windows 8 or IE. Maybe they will come out with a newer version of this driver will fix this problem if it is truly the driver software causing this. Possible try touchpad on another Laptop or Desktop see how it works to rule out it being defective in any way.

BIOS update should only be done if there is a fix or improvement listed that you really need to help with your system, otherwise not recommend. Good luck, post back if need more help.

Maybe its a hardware issue and the touch pad is failing? How old is the PC? Has anything ever been spilled on it.

Nothing spilled on it. and it's just over 1 yr old....it was doing it from day 1 but we hardly used it, but since it's Christmas and we needed to buy stuff and research, it seemed like it got worse....I'm gonna try something else soon and let you know...

Only other thoughts i have since his mouse worked fine with this system. Either that or bad drivers, seems few more have issues from research with this product.
