Winbook 8" tablet - USB video encoder problem

Hi all, new here, need some help.

I am using two Adesso USB video encoders via a USB hub as capture devices for two analog cameras. A few weeks ago, all was fine. Both encoders recognized in Device Manager, both cameras working perfect. The other day the table had an issue and I had to refresh/wipe/start over.

Now for some reason, both encoders are recognized in Device manager, but only one encoder actually works at a time, so I can only see one camera at a time.

To add further confusion, I bought an identical tablet the other day, and it had the same problem out of the box, even though the first tablet had worked fine out of the box.

Any thoughts as to what would cause this? All the drivers are the same, the hardware is the same, encoders are the same, etch, even tried new encoders roc. Oh, also tried this on a few other brands of tablets, so far the only one that seems to work, is a Surface Pro.

But it DID work on the Winbook at one point, now almost NO tablets work.... sigh....

Thoughts? Much thanks.

I would try unplugging one of them, reboot with just that one camera plugged in, then plug the other camera in..

I assume it is seeing both camera's as one and not as each

I tried that, no luck. It didn't ever do that before. It does recognize both encoders as separate devices in DM, in fact when installing the driver for the encoders, I had to install it for each one.

It acts almost like it is just ignoring one of the encoders. For example, when I turn on the cameras with each camera plugged into their separate encoder, it only shows one cam feed. If I unplug everything and try each encoder by itself, all works fine. But with both encoders plugged in simultaneously, only one actually works at a time.

Like... both plugged in, encoder A works, B doesn't, though both are recognized in DM. Unplug both, and plug both back in, and maybe this time B works, and A doesn't.

it seems random which one works or not, but it wasn't like that a fee weeks ago. I have made no changes to the system, and have even tried uninstalling windows update, but no luck.

Thanks for the input.

Anyone else?

It is possible a windows update broke compatibility with having both at once.
I thought of that, that's why I said I uninstalled all windows updates, and it still does it. Do any window updates modify the firmware/bios/hard encoded stuff, that would cause it to just never work again? I even tried a complete wipe and redo on windows with no luck.

In my experience, typically 2 identical USB devices using the identical drivers won't work in Windows because Windows can't use the INF driver for both devices at the same time. It's a sharing violation.

But you said this worked in the past??

Interesting. I have had this problems with cameras and with printers where 2 of the same using the same driver never worked in Windows. We always had to change the 2nd device to a different driver.

Yep. This is part of a system that I've actually been looking to sell to some of my customers. I've never had ANY issues with it. Still works fine on any laptop, and also specifically Surface Pro(just pro, not 2, 3, etc).

I picked up these cheap Winbook tablets, and they are a steal for a win8 tablet. I had tested it for 3 months with NO issues. I did have another program that I installed, and that caused issues with both software I use, so I though "hey, I'll just wipe, reset, and start over".

Since then... I can't get it to work. The weird part, is I have another IDENTICAL tablet as the one that WAS working, but.... out of the box, it has NEVER worked.... and I have no idea why.

I wish I had an answer for you. As I said, we usually threw in the towel with these types of configurations and changed the device driver for one of the devices which is another way of saying we bought a different 2nd device.

The only suggestion I have is to go into the device manager and write down the revision of the device driver and then look for a slightly older revision and install that INF and point the 2nd device to that driver.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input,

I've even tried using two different brand devices/drivers simultaneously, but no luck. Hmm.... sometimes I hate my job. Haha.... If anyone thinks of something else, I'm up for trying it. Thanks!

Back in the day, and maybe even now, pcs operated with each hardware device having a different hardware interrupt number. This number was/is the specific identifier/address assigned to each device.

Check your hw configuration to see if they have the same one or not. If so, change accordingly.
