Solved SM Bus Controller missing: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CA2&SUBSYS_79

Greetings,

Here the other day I switched out my G41M-Combo motherboard with a Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard, and I have installed everything but one single Device.

On device manager it comes up as a SM Bus Controller under Other Devices:

Checking the Hardware IDs I get this:

- PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CA2&SUBSYS_79171462&REV_00
- PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CA2&SUBSYS_79171462
- PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CA2&CC_0C0500
- PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8CA2&CC_0C05

I have checked on the internet and the only site that even remotly "could" tell me everything seems french.

So if anyone has an idea please tell me. What is this?

Hopefully it might have something to do with BF4 crashing all the time.

Unless the motherboard mfg has that driver for Windows 8. If not, you will have to stick with Windows 7.

Unless there is a device connected to SMbus SMBus (System Management Bus) you don't really need it or driver for it. If you are not getting reports about it being specifically at fault, I seriously doubt it has an effect.

Ok, thanks for the feedback, I am gonna try and contact MSI regarding this issue.

The answer is:

What I needed was the Chipset Drivers.

I installed the MSI Live Update 6 software from the DVD that came with the motherboard. After launch, I found the Chipset drivers and installed them. Rebooted computer and the SM Bus Controller was completely installed.
