eGalax touch screen- Windows 8 thinks it's a mouse

Ok so I tried out the Windows 8 Developer preview on my computer. I loved it, and I thought it would be better on a tablet (duh). So I decided to build one, out of an old dell latitude D610. I upgraded the memory and ordered a touch screen, an eGalax resistive touch screen. I have windows 8 now working fine, the screen is actually flipped over so there is no keyboard and trackpad. It's all fine, but Windows only recognizes the touch screen as a mouse, and won't let me use any of the touch screen features. Is there any way to make it recognize it as a touch screen? Like modified drivers?

tl;dr: Is there any way to make an eGalax touch screen work in Windows 8?

Hi Doolster,

Go into the Device Manager, then Programs and Features, then click "turn windows features on or off" and scroll down to make sure that "tablet pc components"are enabled.

Did you plug in the touch screen after installing windows 8, or did you already have the touch screen plugged in when you installed windows 8?

Please help, I would really like to use more of the touch functionality in windows 8. There are no options for pen and touch in the desktop control panel either.

Hmm, I'm assuming you installed the drivers for your eGalax touch screen.

Can you confirm that you installed the eGalax drivers? Does the driver manager have any settings that will allow you change how the touch is received by the machine? You can look in the system tray to see if any of the little icons are for your touch screen driver manager.

If I install the manufacturer drivers for my touch screen my computer treats touches as mouse clicks like yours is doing.

You could try uninstalling the driver for your touch screen in device manager. (That's what fixes this problem on my machine) Hopefully the Windows default touch driver supports your screen and takes over controlling it. If not do a restart and see what happens.

So you looked for the driver software in the sys tray?

And,
you uninstalled the driver in device manager?
What happened when you uninstalled the driver?
Did you restart after uninstall?

The driver software was not in the system tray. I uninstalled the driver from the control panel nad then it didnt sense touch. I restarted still no touch. Also the touchscreen hooks into a chip would that matter?

Hmm, Ok, try this:

Go into control panel, device driver, human interface devices, and right click your eGalax driver.
Select Update driver software, then let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Tell me what's available under "Model"
