Okay I have a strange problem I have a HP EliteBook 8460p Core i5-2520M 2.5GHz 6GB AMD HD 6470M laptop. when I first set it up after installing the video drivers the screen went black. I pulled out the power cord and the screen came back on because of power options having a lower value set for screen brightness. I used the power menu to lower the brightness one notch when my computer is plugged in.

The problem my screen isn't has bright as it could be and I can't figure out how to get the highest brightness setting to work. And yes the other brightness settings work so it's not that problem with auto brightness or whatever it's called and I have it turned off anyway.

thanks

Sounds like a bad inverter to me. Good news is, even if the unit is out of warranty, it's probably a $20 part. Bad news is, you almost always have to rip a laptop 1/2-3/4 apart before you can even get to it. The majority of the time the inverter is located in the bottom part of the display bezel where the company logo is.

If the unit is still under warranty, this is a perfectly valid claim, so get on the phone with HP and make them fix it.
