Drivers update for Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030

I'm having a strange problem. Intel released new drivers to update from version 15.11 to 16.11. I downloaded them from Intel website, ran install, success. When I go into Device Manager to check on the driver version, I see it is still 15.11. I have tried a number of things, including deleting the drivers from the Device Manager and running the install again. However, in this case Windows 8 automatically installs even older drivers, version 14, dated 2011. I'd like to try the new drivers because it takes very long for the net to comeback after I wake up my laptop. Version 15.11 was installed by Windows Update, those drivers are dated January 2014.

Just disable allowing Windows to automatically install drivers.

That didn't work. It still installed the 2011 version and now I got some registry errors when I run the Intel installation.

It will work, if you do it correctly. As for registry errors. You have to make sure you are using the correct driver for your OS.

Besides, if it is not broke, why change the driver.

You may also don't bother yourself with replying if you can't read my post. It is broke and thus I'm fixing it. And it's a correct OS, it's just there is nothing worse than working with Windows.

It is not a windows issue. It is an end user problem. Again, if you go in and tell Windows to not automatically install or update the driver. You can keep it from doing so when you reboot and install the correct driver.

It there is a problem that the current correct driver is installed. It is something else that is causing the issue.

I have driver 15.4.1.1, dated 23 Jan 2013.
This is the default driver on a Windows 8.1 update 3 ISO based install.
Since it is working fine, i haven't tried to update it to 16.11 yet.

After installing latest 16.11.0 from intel

Ran into a bit of problem with wifi.

On Intel 16.11.0
It won't connect on startup automatically. Once i click on wifi icon in taskbar, it would connect sometimes immediately and sometimes it will take a little while to connect. Googled the issue, and suggestion was to disable the "Bluetooth AMP" from advanced wifi settings in device manager. Did that and it still won't connect automatically on start up. But now it always connect immediately when i click on wifi icon.

Solution:
What worked for me was to uninstall new intel drivers, let the system go back to its default driver. And then set the Wifi priority to number one from advanced settings in Network and Sharing center. Earlier it was at 3rd position in the list.


Note that setting it to 1st position with Intel driver didn't help either. It worked only with default microsoft driver and now as soon as desktop shows up, wifi is already connected and ready.

I hope it stays the same way.
Windows 8.1 doesn't seem so smart when it comes to internet connections management and may be that's why so much wifi complaints on the forums. I never had to touch any settings in windows 7 no matter what driver i used, everything worked by default.
