My sd card slot has worked fine on my 4 different sd cards since 8 came out, but suddenly all cards are read only (and work fine on other computer). So I believe it is a card reader hard/soft problem.... Any thoughts? Thanks

Are the cards SD or SDHC? SDHC is the newer tecnology and capacity starts a 4GB, older readers can't work with them although newer readers can use both types. Are the cards out of a camera? Could a setting in the camera have made them Read-only? If used in a camera DON'T reformat them in a computer, do it in the camera. Formatting in the computer will make them unusable in the camera.

As I said, all my cards worked in this slot for 1+ year and suddenly all are read only in this slot but work fine on other computer. They are all SDHC and not used in cameras.

Just tried a new never used sdhc card in slot in question and when I tried to add a file it said disk is write protected. Tried it in a diff computer and it worked fine.

There is a provision for a write protect switch on SD cards. Perhaps whatever detects the position of that switch in the reader slot has become faulty or jammed. It is also possible for the actual switch to be placed in the protect position when the card is plugged in if something catches on it. Are your switches locked?
