Hi eightforums,

I'm running Windows 8.1 on a SDD with a second HDD along side it. Inside the Device Manager I disabled my second HDD and rebooted my system.

Windows started as normal, but a few key windows programs have stopped working:
- Task Manager
- Device Manager (basically all control panel functions)
- Powershell (Command Prompt Works, but can't be opened with administrative rights)

The main problem is that I now can't enable my second HDD. Does anyone have clue why the HDD is needed for these programs and how I can re-enable my HDD?

    Seagate Desktop HDD, 2TB

Switching the SATA cable of the HDD to another SATA connection on the motherboard automatically enabled my HDD on restart.
This problem is thereby fixed.

Just in case someone ever finds this useful.

The problem was that I set the default program files folder to the second HDD (D:\Programs). After changing it back to the default
'C:\Program Files' and 'C:\Progam Files (x86)' windows could finally act normal without the second HDD.

(chaning program files folder was done by changing the registery values with 'regedit.exe' as explained in this awesome link)
