External HDD not working: no partitions show in diskpart

I have a WD My Book Essential USB 3.0 3 TB external HDD that i bought just under 2 years ago (still under warranty for a few more months) and it doesnt work at all.

-doesnt show up in My Computer at all
-makes an unusual sound with varying beeps and clicks and definitely sounds like an "error sound"
-when i run MiniTool Partition Wizard, it doesnt even show up as a Disk
-when i run DiskPart on the cmd prompt, sometimes it shows up, but when it does, it shows as "0 GB", and when i "list partition", it says there are no partitions. so im assuming its just completely corrupted.
-when i try to update the WD firmware from the WD Support site, it doesnt even get past the beginning of the process. it says to make sure nothing is open on the desktop that is using files from the HDD, but nothing is open at all.

any ideas?

If you have physical, unfamiliar sounds coming from your hard drive, it's pretty definite that it has crashed. Especially since you can't access it via any of the methods that you have already used.

Have you run the WD Disk Diagnostics yet on the disk? See if it can tell you anything about the disk.

But I would get a RMA from WD as soon as possible. They are great about warranty replacements. Of course I hope you have another copy of your files.
