Since the last set of microsoft updates, I cannot connect my nexus 7 or nexus 10 (android 4.4.4) to my windows 8.1 64bit desktop. USB debugging is enabled but although you hear a connection sound, the android storage does not appear in drives listing. This has only occurred with latest windows 8.1 updates. Fortunately my HTC android phone on android 4.4.2 still works. Has anyone else come across this issue.

OK can now reply to my own question.

Its really a driver (or an incorrect drive allocated issue, due to be knocked out by updates) issue.
1. In Nexus 7 or 10, make sure usb debugging mode is enabled, and go into storage and hit menu USB connection and ensure usb mode is set to MTP.
2. Connect tablet to PC.
3. In windows device manager find ADB Driver (May be Acer) then drill down. Right click and select "update driver software".
4. Select "Browse my computer for driver software".
5. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
6. With "show compatible hardware" checkbox ticked, two drivers should be shown.
(a) Android ADB Interface. and (b) MTP User Device or Composite USB device.
7. Select (b) above and click Next.
8. Device should now appear.

THANKS Buddy, it worked for me,
i've had this problem for months now and some articles told me to look for Portable Devices in Device Manager but it never ever appeared, thanks to you, I found it as Acer ADB Device as you mentioned. Followed the steps and it was recognized right away.

you're a life saver

Thank you =)
