Correlation between RAM speed and CPU heat?

I noticed that when i manually set my memory to 2133 mhz (as instructed by gskill, since my memory is 2133 but if i don't change it there it will be 1600), my cpu temps go like 5-8 ºC higher. Is this normal? Is there a correlation between ram performance and cpu heat?

It would help to know what the system specs are but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess it's an i5/i7 system. With that being that the memory controller is built into the CPU it is possible that the temps will go up a little due to the increased load of the memory.

However a more plausible cause is probably due to using XMP mode to run the memory sticks at their rated speed. Usually when enabling XMP in the BIOS this can also increase other voltages as well, resulting in an increase in heat.

5-8 is kind of high, but yeah, it could be normal considering you are in effect "overclocking" the system by running the modules at their rated speed of 2133MHz.

BTW my modules are "overclocked" as well by running them at 1866, but I've never checked my temps with them running at 1600 so I can't say there's a temperature difference between 1600 and 1866.

Anyway please post your system specs, than use Core Temp to read your temps and post a screen shot of those readings here so we may see what they are.

Thanks.

That 'Core Temp' program was loaded with Add-Ons. My AV program blocked its download, till I shut down my AV program.

The program "Speed Fan" will also show core temps, and it didn't trigger a negative response from my AV program.

But if you're running your ram at a higher speed, the CPU will have to work harder to keep up. They work together.

I've adjusted the voltage to my RAM and the speed of my own CPU to reduce heating, since my house is NOT air conditioned and it can get pretty warm in here. It's 93F right now and it gets hotter.
But I'm totally controlling the CPU temp by making the adjustments I've mentioned above.

Good Luck!

you just decline them all if you don't want them, they have to get development money somewhere. that program is very solid and speed fan doesn't work on anything i own anymore.

Welll considering most modern CPUs have the memory controller on die itself then it would seem plausible, but I used to run 2133 and didn't really notice any CPU heat more then usual

Exactly. Plus for a down & dirty, quick & easy temp program Core Temp works like a champ. And there are a myriad of temp reading programs out there, I just chose the one I thought was quick & easy.

I actually use HW Monitor, so if core temp is really all you want here you go, i attached the pics.

There are no pics, they didn't load.

Anyway looking at your system specs I'll stay with my initial thoughts in post #3. But yeah, do post the temp readings :)

Not sure what CPUTIN is, but your core temps seem to be within normal range so you should be good :)

CPUTIN is what you normally might call "Die" temperature, temp at the back of processor. It's always higher than Core temps. Can go quite high, 90s or more. Some people when doing extreme OC, put a fan behind MB at the place under the socket. It would be of some help only when going to extreme.

Stock cooling can really get high cputin. Any decent 3rd party cooling and cputin shouldn't be going above 60s
