hello ,check wired connection from the drive to the motherboard ,or its possible the drive has died ,you need to get access to another drive to try

Hi there

Actually opening a laptop and removing a DVD is very simple -- same as changing the HDD on a laptop. Just remove the battery (Usually), undo about 8 screws on the back and the DVD will usually slide in / out easily - it will probably have either a SATA connector like a laptop HDD or a small adaptor -- take a picture with your phone camera if there are any other cables - but usually especially on larger laptops removing the DVD is very easy.

I recommend though if it really is broken get an external USB one - then if you get a new laptop that doesn't have a DVD drive then you can use it when you need one -- they are very cheap often around 35 - 45 USD.

DVD drives are are quite robust -- try and blow some (dust free) air through it - use one of those photographers "air cans". - there might be a dust spec on the laser lens which causes bad tracking, or use one of those DVD cleaning disks (the ones with a little brush) on it. I've seen a few perfectly good laptop DVD drives thrown away just because people haven't tried to clean them.

Cheers
jimbo
