So, it used to be okay on Windows 7, but now the iPhone icon is not showing up in Windows Explorer or in "Devices and Printers". How can I fix that, since it bugs me very much...

OS is Windows 8.1 Pro with all the latest updates.
Thanks in advance!

I followed these instructions to no avail. :cry:Should there be a reboot after the uninstallation of iTunes? Can anyone else confirm they can get their iPhone detected by Windows 8.1 Device Manager?

Tried those instructions and here's my screenshots:
Capture1.JPGCapture2.JPG
My iPhone 5 is detected (and syncs just fine) with the latest version of iTunes but is not detected by Windows 8.1. My objective is to replicate the same behavior that Windows 7 does when you plug in your iPhone (locked or unlocked) where shows up in My Computer as displayed in your previous screenshot so I can navigate through the folders and quickly observe the photos in the Camera Roll. I've tried to manually install the driver for the 'iPhone' entry in Device Manager as well with no success. :(

Editing this post to add what USBDeview from nirsoft is displaying:
Capture3.JPG

Editing post again:
- Ensured I'm using legitimate OEM Apple Lightning-to-USB cable
- Tried a soft reset of iPhone (turning it on & off) while still connected to PC
- Tried a hart reset of iPhone (hold down both physical buttons and let go when white apple logo pops up) while NOT connected to PC.

I will update this with what resolves this issue once I figure this out. As per your screenshot, it obviously has to work so I'll let you know. Thanks.

The yellow exclamation mark indicates that there's something wrong with the device driver. You can try:
  1. From device manager, right click on Apple Iphone->Uninstall then disconnect your Iphone from the PC
  2. Download Drive Tools for Windows Cleanup , unzip, right click to run as Admin to remove all orphan USB Drivers from your PC
  3. Connect your Iphone again to see if Windows can detect and re-install the driver for it.

What iOS version is your iPhone on? I'm still on 7.12; might be why I can't get it detected...

Apparently I am using the same version as yours. Are you connecting your Iphone to USB3 port ? In case you are not aware of, it's not compatitible with USB3. Only USB2

NOTE: My Iphone is 4S. However, I connected my friend's Iphone 5 & 6 with latest IOS and they all work.

** RESOLVED**

Since I run Windows 8.1 Enterprise N, the resolution is that I had to install the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1. It's a brand new Lenovo work laptop from British company so I assume that's why it came installed with the 'N' edition. The moment I finished installing that pack and plugged the iPhone 5 in (BTW, I'm using a USB 3.0 port without any problem), Windows detected the device immediately. So it doesn't matter that I'm on iOS 7.12 or that I'm using a USB 3.0 port; it worked. I found this link: http://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-920/251273-windows-8-1-n-wont-recognize-my-device.html and read the comment from rlime.

Here's the screen snippet proof:

For those who want more information:

N and KN editions
The features in the N and KN Editions are the same as their equivalent full versions, but do not include Windows Media Player or other
Windows Media-related technologies, such as Windows Media Center and Windows DVD Maker. The cost of the N and KN Editions are the
same as the full versions, as the Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N or Windows 7 KN can be downloaded without charge from Microsoft.

The Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1 is available here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dow...rue&fa43d42b-25b5-4a42-fe9b-1634f450f5ee=True

The Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1 will install Media Player and related technologies on a computer running Windows 8.1 N or Windows 8.1 KN editions. For further information, please see Microsoft Support and query the Knowledge Base for the article number KB2929699.

I hope this post will help others. Thank You for taking the time and helping me out, topgundcp. This forum is great, has helped me in the past when searching the Internet and I'm glad I registered on here earlier today. And, hey, I didn't know about iTools (iTools -æ). It looks like a good iTunes alternative and I'm going to have to check it out.

Good to hear that. But I know it did not work in the past so maybe they updated Itunes to new version to work with USB3.

Forget about Itunes. Just google and download Itools. It is so much easier to deal with Apple Iphone, Ipad. Forget about Sync. too, with Itools, just use drag & drop to copy/delete, Import/Export your contact list, pictures, album, music , create your own ringtones etc...
In addition, you can use your Iphone/Ipad as a storage device, pretty much the same as an external HD.
And best of all, it's free.

However, Itools does require you to install Itunes since it uses the backend process, shared DLL's from Itunes.

BTW, thanks for reporting back.
