Solved USB Hub - USB Device not recognized

I have a weird problem.

I recently bought a cheap USB Hub off eBay. I plugged it in and connected my devices and it always works.

However, about 75% of the time when Win 8 boots, I get about a dozen "USB connect/disconnect" sounds and a window that says "USB Device not recognized". (sometimes 3 or 4 of these windows)

I've searched for this issue but every post that I find provides a recommendation for a USB device that is not working. None of these suggestions applies because after all the boot noise, the hub and it's devices work. It just seems like Win 8 is having trouble recognizing the Hub but keeps trying and eventually succeeds.

The Hub is plugged into a USB 2 port with a scroll wheel mouse and a Dymo LabelWriter 400 connected to the hub.

Any suggestions?

Win 8.1 Pro X64
Asus CM3870
Intel Core i7-3770
16GB RAM

What happens when you do not have any devices connected to it ? It's most likely it is recognizing those devices, not the hub itself.

I did "almost" what you suggested....
- I disconnected the LabelWriter but left the mouse connected to the hub and there was no "USB connect/disconnect" sound.
- I reconnected the LabelWriter and there is still no "USB connect/disconnect" sound.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The only thing I can rationalize is that one of the devices connected to the hub was not fully plugged in or had a poor connection. When I played with the connections, it resolved the issue.

I'll post back if the problem returns and playing with the connections doesn't resolve the problem.

OK, printers have habit to initialize at first and than shut down until needed to save power. Maybe that was the case here.

OK, printers have habit to initialize at first and than shut down until needed to save power. Maybe that was the case here.

This morning, I'm back to repeated USB connect/disconnect sounds.

I'm going to disconnect the LabelWriter and leave the mouse connected to the hub for a few days to see what happens.

Re the LabelWriter initializing and shutting down. I have another printer that does that but the LabelWriter doesn't turn on until a label is sent to it for printing.

I'll post back in a few days with more info.

Update.....
I disconnected the LabelWriter and left the mouse connected to the USB Hub and all was well.
Then I moved the HP Scanjet 6300C to the Hub and connected the LabelWriter directly to a USB port and all has been well for a couple of days.

I previously attempted to connect the mouse and my webcam to the hub but that didn't work.

Therefore, I assume that some devices don't like to be connected to a USB hub. I checked the documentation on both the webcam and LabelWriter and didn't see any reference to the necessity to avoid a hub.

Anyway, it seems that my issue has been resolved.

No problem, I also found some mice and keyboards not liking to be on the same hub, that's why i made suggestions about it. It seems that because connectors in hubs work of the same USB port and therefore must share same resources and if they can't properly do that, the conflict may arise. It's pretty unpredictable though. There's is another thing about hubs. all ports in it share the power supplied to them by one USB connector, which is limited to 500mA in case of USB2 and 900mA in USB3 ports so if you plug enough stuff in it to exceed those values, you must use a powered hub with it's own 5v DC power adapter.
