How to install Legacy IEEE 1394 Firewire driver in Windows 8 x86 MOTU

I am making this thread for reference and am sure it will help many users.

Depending on hardware in use, while using MOTU (and perhaps others) professional audio sound interfaces, it may be necessary to use the legacy firewire driver so the audio is smooth without glitches or dropouts.

The problem? Windows 8 does not include the legacy driver like Windows 7 does.

I have posted the solution here, 4th post down:

MOTUNATION View topic - Windows 8 Consumer Preview + MOTU = Working

If you need help doing this for an x64 system, just let me know and we will hook it up.

Sure thing. But first, make sure you are using Windows 8 x64. To do so, press the Windows Key + Pause Break. It says there on the system type line.

For this to work for you, you will also have to disable driver signing enforcement. The best way is to test things out first, so you can do so every time your machine boots by pressing F8 until the menu shows. The option is there. If everything works well with this, you can make it permanent later so it does not have to be done with every boot.

So, are you running x64? To help you, I also need someone (could be yourself) that has Windows 7 x64.
