Can't get new laptop to work with old printer

I am trying to load Lexmark 5470 printer and get "enable bidirectional communication" error message. I am trying to load it on a brand new Toshiba laptop running 8.1 Suggested fix is to go to "ports" tab in the printer dialog box and enable it. I can't find the enable box to click. Any thoughts on resolving this issue. Both Lexmark and Microsoft won't talk to me w/o a credit card. The ptr is 5 years old and is not worthy of any significant investment, although it did work well.

Printers are pretty cheap now, and if this one has lasted 5 years, I would go ahead and replace it...;)
