I plan to put Windows 8 on a old Vostro 200 desktop (e8500, 3gb ram). The Upgrade Assistant says that there is no Windows 8 driver for the integrated network card in this machine. I am using a USB wireless connection for this computer, is the lack of a driver for the integrated NIC going to pose any issue?

Thanks!

Not if you are not planing to use wired connection. Did you check for it in the Device manager ?, if it's there but not working or as Unknown Device just mark it "Disabled".

Thanks CountMike. I haven't done the installation yet - I just ran the upgrade assistant the other day and discovered the issue with the NIC driver. I'll be upgrading sometime over the next two weeks before XP becomes unsupported, and I will take your advice and mark the Unknown Device as "disabled". Thanks again!
