Solved Driver 331.65 stopped responding and recovered

Hello,

So this morning I was playing FIFA 13, charger not plugged in and I noticed there is a performance difference between plugged in and not plugged in. The game was laggy a bit. Then suddenly, my game crash with a black screen first then a pop up yellow exclamation mark warning appears, something about :

Display driver 331.65 has stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I restart my laptop and shut it down after some time. This afternoon I turn it on back and play FIFA 13 again but this time with the cable plugged in. The game was smooth now and the message earlier didn't appear. So this means I have to plugged in every time I want to play? Need advice on this. And why there is a performance difference when plugged in and not plugged in?

yea its cuz of ur graphics card.you can change that settings
if u have an amd graphics card go to amd cataylist centre and change the application settings to high performance(currently it must be on "based on power source" , which is while charging) this might help u out

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M though.

Try looking at the power options in control panel. My guess is the graphics card performance is lowered due to it running on battery.

I always choose High Performance, both on battery and plugged in.

Nvidia released new drivers yesterday.

Yeah my GeForce Experience also detects a driver update from Nvidia just recently. But I did create a thread at GeForce Forum whether I should download the update and they say only download drivers which is supported from my manufacturer's laptop, Asus, which is far away from my country so I cannot contact them. The only way is by e-mailing but I don't think they will reply. So I just stick to this 331.65 which is already in this laptop when I purchase it.

I've never heard of this being a rule. I've never waited for 3rd party tweaking. My guess is it would be a long wait. maybe do a restore point and try them.

Ok, will do. How about you, did you download the driver update? I've seen your specs, from GeForce too.

I always update drivers as soon as they are available. I figure if they update a driver, there is a reason for it. Sometimes critical. I don't ask why my friend, I just do.

They're full of it. I just searched Nvidia's site and the new driver does apply to your notebook. Get it and also make sure FIFA is up to date.

Oh okay. So I'll just update it later on. I can roll back the driver if any problems arise right?
Only once. Didn't encounter this problem before.

So it's compatible with my laptop right? Yeah my FIFA is already up-to-date.

Yes, you can. Personally, I do the custom install and have it remove the old drivers. I always save all my downloads and keep the old driver's installer's for a few days. If no problem's occur with the new driver's, I delete the old one's.

That generally work's out pretty good for me. It save hdd space, too.
