I have had a seagate 500gb expansion drive for two years and never had a problem, then yesterday I turned it on, the led indicator lit for a second and the disc started and continued spinning but with no sign of it in file explorer, after several more efforts the same result, I tried other usb sockets then a friends laptop with the same results I am puzzled the way the green LED lights up but for only 0.5 of a second, that together with the seemingly intact rotation of the platter gives me hope but then I know nothing of IT hardware therefore I’m hoping that someone can advise me either way whether I may be able to get a quick and (cheapish) repair or if my doom monger friend is correct by suggesting a professional retrieval can be eye-wateringly expensive regardless of the amount of data saved. Again a pre-emptive Thank you to any prospective.
