I have the Globalsat BT-386i Bluetooth GPS reciver. I have it paired but it will never connect. When I go into PC settings it shows BT-GPS-3853CA Not Connected. I am using it with my Asus T100 on windows 8.1.

I'm not sure of the battery charge status. I have it plugged in a USB port and it does power on. Will it work being plugged in a USB port if the battery is low or will it only work off the battery?

Any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks
Jim

Do you have the owner's manual for the device?

Did you have any problems setting up a Com port for it? What process are you using to discover the device, the Bluetooth icon in the tray?

What software are you trying to use with it?

I have very little experience with this, but there are some logical steps and I remember a Com port situation, I suppose it was actually a serial port/com port situation with an older device.

I do have the manual.
Nothing ever came up about a com port.
I get it to pair with my Asus T100 and connect then e few seconds latter it disconnects and never again will it connect. If I remove the pairing it does the same thing. It will only connect one time after pairing then never connect again.

I tried it on my Desktop PC with a Bluetooth dongle and it does the same thing. Also if I connect it with the USB cable both computers say unrecognized USB device. I downloaded the USB drivers from Globalsat but it does the same thing. Their site says it's Windows 8 compatible.

I wish I could help, but not having the device to see how it works make it hard. I would try to get it working using the USB to make sure you have a good connection to the device.

Once the device shows in the Devices and Printers window, check the properties and see if you need to set up a port.

The device may need the software loaded to be able to see the device, do you have that installed and did it ask you to plug in a device or tell it where the device was?

Is the device supposed to be on the Bluetooth Network, or just Bluetooth enabled? The manual does say the computer has to be rebooted to complete an install for the device.
