Touch Keyboard/picture missing at logon screen in win 8

Hello, I cannot get the touch keyboard or picture password to come up consistently at logon screen. I had to go to services to make the touch-service work with desktop and logon (it was unchecked). Now, at fresh start-up or restart I can get the keyboard by touch but will not get it again if I log off and log back on. And under no conditions do I get the picture password option although I have a picture set up for it.

thanks,

The reason why your touch keyboard isn't showing up all the time is simply because of what input Windows recognizes as the last used input method. Like for example, if you swipe open the Charms and hit Search, the touch keyboard pops up. If you go and input a password on some internet site but use the touchpad to click on that input field; the touch keyboard pops up as it was the input method last used.

So say you used the physical keyboard to input your password, Windows realizes you're doing that and doesn't show the keyboard if you didn't use the touchscreen. It's a feature intended so the UI respects your input method, it'd get tedious if EVERY time you just simply clicked on a search box and typed something, the touch keyboard shows up and takes up half your screen even though you're using the physical version.

And as for the picture password to show up consistently, I can't say I've had that issue often enough to say what to do. Usually when that happens, I select to use the picture password and every time past that it's always been picture password. It could be again, whatever method was last used Windows chooses that over the latter.

Hello, I suppose that may make sense but I recall distinctly on my other win 8 machine that whenever I used my finger to touch the password box, the touch keyboard showed up--and I usually typed in my password anyway. The keyboard always came up when I used my finger or pen. Not so in this case (except when I first turn it on).

As for the picture password, I do not even have the option to select it at logon. I always did on my old win 8 machine.

sigh...

Correction: Touch Keyboard does not pop-up at all. I just tried charm search and it popped-up once but never again. Nothing pops up in metro internet explorer either. Obviously the auto-feature of the service is not working.

No keyboard even when there's a text input field? Odd. You can still manually open up the keyboard through the Settings Charm, there should be the option for the keyboard there.

Something's probably gone weird. Is this a fresh install of Windows 8/8.1?

And as for the picture password, if you're on a second PC with a Microsoft Account, typically it will transfer over the picture password. If you're not on such an account, you'll need to reset one up if there isn't one already.

It should give you the option of picture password if there is one set up.

Brand new Lifebook T732 Fujitsu. One week old. Installed latest drivers. Then installed a few programs for work. I did my new logon with my existing hotmail account and it transferred everything over but the picture password. I can manually open keyboard in metro charm. No help in logon of course. I have checked the touch screen service in win 8 and it is set for automatic/trigger and the logon option has "work with desktop". Is there any way to reinstall this service or some driver related to it?

Sigh. Not solved. Two reboots later the keyboard is lost again. The MS troubleshoot finds that it is turn-off--but i shouldn't have to run that every time. What is turning of this option??

UPDATE: the touch keyboard shows up at first logon. And for about 10 seconds thereafter works with charm-search. Something must be turning it off.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Booted up this morning and the keyboard DID NOT show up at logon.
How does one do a clean boot in win 8? f8?

Bah. I'm doing a refresh from my win 8 repair disk.
I'll report back.

FACTORY INSTALL: still No Touch Keyboard.

I fixed it on my own. Selective startup eliminating Fujitsu program. That fixed it. 6 reboots later and still no problem. I'll bring my complaint to fujitsu.
Thanks for your efforts,

Bump. The touch keyboard does not automatically come up in charm or metro in laptop mode, but does in tablet mode. Something funky with this computer. Maybe bad sector?

Restarted with clean boot. Worked first time. Will eliminate startup programs by halves to find culprit.
