USB 2.0 ports being identified as USB 3.0

Trying to connect an Android tablet and this error and troubleshooting suggestions are being displayed by Devices and Printers:
"Google Nexus ADB Interface can’t work properly with USB 3.0"

"If the USB 2.0 device is incompatible with USB 3.0, plugging it into a USB 2.0 port can solve the problem."

Has anyone any bright ideas? I've tried 4 cables (not that it proves anything) They are all USB 2.0 to micro USB. I know where the USB 2 ports are on my m/b and I've tried all 4 (there is no USB hub involved). The m/b is an Asus Z87-Pro and all the latest patches have been applied.

I've found a couple of threads on Android forums but they just stop as if the OP has found a solution but not disclosed it.

From what I found there are 6 USB 3.0/2.0 Blue ports on the rear of your board. There are four connectors (2 ports each) on the bottom of the board that are USB 2.0 and need a cable to bring them out. Although the USB ports on the back should run 3.0 or 2.0 there may be a driver issue on those ports that is not compatible.

Thanks for your reply Phone Man. This isn't definitive but there is an issue with the USB "drivers". Intel have not updated their chipset usb drivers for W8. Microsoft haven't updated their USB drivers. The update is needed because there is hardware out there that doesn't comply to the usb standards and differentiation of usb 2 and 3 is causing problems

Did you check the ASUS site for updates?

Motherboards - Z87-PRO

Under USB their is an update for the ASMedia chip that runs 4 of the USB 3.0/2.0 ports on the back of the MB. Also there is a chipset driver that may fix the USB ports on the main chipset. I would try the ASMedia first an see it its ports will work. Then look at the chipset update for the others.
