Windows 8.1 Hard Drive Space Issue

Hello everyone I am new to these forums and to Windows 8.1

I have recently purchased a Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419, it came with Windows 8 included. When I first checked the specs I noticed that the hard drive was 750GB, I tried updating it to Windows 8.1 but it took forever for some reason and it wasnt downloading so I decided to download the Windows 8.1 ISO file and from there do the upgrade. When everything was finished I checked if everything was still the same and noticed that it only had 670gb of hard drive space (in total). I don't know if it was something I did that caused it to shrink but I would like an explanation.

That's correct. Advertised size is different than actual true binary size. Hard Drive Size Capacities Calculator 1 kilobyte is actually 1024 bytes but they use 1 kilobyte as being 1000 bytes when they calculate the advertised size. Windows will always display the true size and it will be smaller than what the manufacturer claims.

awh man that sucks but thanks for the information. Also it says the actual size should be 698 but mines 676, any reason why?

That's an age old "WTF" type of deal. They've always done it, but the thing is, the larger the drive the bigger the difference is. Most don't notice it on the smaller drives. That's also the unpartitioned/unformatted size. Its a buyer beware type of deal.
