Asus - Elen touchpad issues

I have a laptop running Win 8 and using the Elan touchpad drivers. Asus ships their laptops with their own "asus" version of the elan drivers and I tried using them, however they do not allow for many options that I cannot deal without having, so I installed the elan drivers and everything works great except every so often I completely loose sage of my touchpad and have to reboot to get them back. I have tried just restarting explorer and this does not work either. Before people answer with "use the correct drivers" even asus tecs have said that you can use the elan drivers and they are interchangeable, in fact one person gave me a link to a driver on the asus site that is a combined package of teh asus and elan touchpad package which was created to help other issues they were having. Anyways.. has anyone had an issue like this? And if so did anyone find a solution?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I have actually had some luck with using other manufacturer drivers when it comes to the touchpad although I have Alps. I'ved used Dell and Lenovo in the past.

PS: You could try the ones Acer provides. Just type my model (V3-771G) into their download search: Acer | Download

There is more to it than just the drivers. At least for me there is on my ASUS laptop. My touchpad works right out of the box on a clean install of 8 except for the two finger scroll and gestures. For that to work I have to install the ASUS Smart Gestures utility and the ATK utility. Just a heads up.
