Tried installing latest synaptics drivers but got a failed to install error.
Win8 drivers not listed on toshiba site.
Tried via Toshiba service centre but couldn't download this to install. Got message "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com"
Pad works but no edge or corner settings.
Tried updating drivers but windows thinks it is a OS/2 mouse & up to date.

I'm thinking you meant PS2 maybe? PS2 is the old style plug that corded mice and keyboards plugged into. Sometimes they will actually connect your keyboard and Track Pad to the interface internally instead or using say a USB port. It may also just be the wording used in the description of the device. Nobody bothered to update it. My touchpad on my ASUS laptop works fine right out of the box but like you say the edge swipes don't work. In my case its not the touchpad driver that enables those functions its a utility called Smart Gestures that makes it all work. My two finger scroll won't even work without it. You may need a similar utility from your laptop manufacturer to get it all working.

Thanks alphanumeric but I pulled the pin on win8.1 & ave gone back to 7.
8.1 was just too big a change in the way I use my laptop. Any operating system that needs a google search to find out how to turn off my computer is not worth the effort.

lol, I had to do that also the first time I used 8. I have shutdown shortcuts pinned to my taskbar and Start Screen now. The edge swipes annoyed me on my laptop and I turned them off. I just use the hot corner when I actually do need the charms bar.

I didn't like the original 8.0 release. Metro didn't work very well on a multi monitor setup. It was one screen only full screen only. With 8.1 its much better. Now I can run it on all three monitors at once if I want. With Metro snap I can run 7 metro apps on screen at once, if I wanted too. The Start Screen is better too, not so cluttered as it was in 8.0. I boot to desktop and have my everyday use programs on my taskbar. Other frequently used programs and the Metro Apps I use are on my main Start Screen. Everything else is on the all Apps screen. I use a trackball instead of a mouse and find navigation easy. The more I use 8.1 the more I wonder why I originally hated it? Some of the settings can be a pain to find but overall I like it.

My QOSMIO i7 doesn't have any 8 or 8.1 drivers available. Touchpad issues, cooling fan issues, etc. All seems too hard for very little upside.
