Router suddenly requiring daily reset(s) after Windows 8.1

Probably should alter the name on here... anyway, not sure if this is the right place, but I've recently updated my computer to Windows 8.1, and since then, I've had issues with the router it uses to connect to the internet. It doesn't seem to act up until this computer's on and connected, at which point it'll eventually make ALL devices connected to the router disconnect and the router itself fail to be discovered. Following a quick reset of the router through unplugging and plugging it back in, it'll work fine for several hours before it might need another reset. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or legitimately an issue caused by this computer following the Windows 8.1 update, but I thought I'd ask and see if anything can be figured out.

Also, before anyone asks, the computer wirelessly connects to the router, and uses an Nvidia motherboard with a nForce 430 chipset (not fully up to date; I've had a lot of issues concerning the chipset drivers and Windows 8, and the chipset's so outdated that the latest drivers are for Windows Vista), assuming any of that information helps and might be at fault.

Is the router's firmware up to date? That's the first thing I would check. Look for the model number on the manufacturers site and you should find info on checking and updating to the latest code.

The router is a Vizio XWR100, and it's on the latest firmware (it's also a discontinued router, so I don't know if DD-WRT is a thing for it). However, apparently there's one who had similar issues to mine, and they were able to fix it by tweaking its connection settings from mixed to Wireless-N or Wireless-G. I'll post back with any findings, but I've confirmed that my computer likely isn't the cause; it dropped all connections a short while ago and the desktop in question wasn't on.

Could be overheating. It happens and its not a myth.

Take the cover off the router and see if it behaves better, as a scientific (lol) test.
