Driver for HP Laser Jet 1020 printer for Windows 8.1

Laptop: HP 15 n028US. Just purchased and all Windows updates installed.

I installed the recommended full driver from the HP website and it doesn't work. The printer does appear on the list of printers, but it doesn't work. I followed the recommendation to only plug in the USB cable when prompted and it appeared that the installation was successful. I tried a recommendation found in another forum to install the Windows 7 driver. That didn't work either.

Anyone know of a driver that will work?

Are you sure you have the correct OS bit type installed. I see this all the time, the wrong bit type is downloaded and it doesn't work. What bit type of 8.1 do you have 32 or 64?

It's 64. I checked my specs and entered it correctly. I downloaded it from the link you posted. There are many reports of this problem but no solution that I can find.

OK...try this....download Revouninstaller, the free version. Uninstall the printer software package, doing the complete removal. Keep in mind this will take some time. When finished, reboot then redownload the printer software package and try installing again.

The software package is no longer on my system. I already deleted it. I reinstalled it twice with no success.

My point with Revouninstaller is; that most of the time when you uninstall software, there is/are residuals left over and mainly in the registry. Hence why some software manufacturers have there own software removal tool and why I recommended the use of Revouninstaller utility.

You're right and I can prove it: Today the printer suddenly worked---after I supposedly uninstalled it. I think what happened was that it was missing some final small step that took effect after restarting and trying a new printout. YAY! ONE dang problem solved with this computer.

Hey...great news...glad you got it working.

For some devices connected via USB, you should start driver installation without the device connected and during the installation connect it (with it's power on) when prompted or with the lack of prompt finish installation, restart computer and than connect device. I,m using an HP1300 that has same drivers and this method is the only one that worked.
