Hi all. I'm interested in this tablet but haven't seen any real people reviews yet. Anyone here try it and if so what do you think?

Thanks

I assume you mean the Encore 8 Pro (since the Pro is the model that runs Windows). I have the 32GB model, and I love it. With a 64GB MIcroSDHC card where I load/save virtually everything, I don't see the 32GB as a real limitation, although your mileage may vary.

It took me a while to get used to the small text and icons on the Desktop, but I have gotten used to it, and a stylus helps.

The battery life is decent for such a powerful device, and it won't blow away a good desktop system, but performance is good.

Cases are just now shipping for the device, and I have one being shipped now. I haven't carried it around much yet because I prefer the protection of a case before carrying it everywhere, but I like the size of the unit.

I am having a little trouble getting used to the soft keyboard because I have been spoiled by the Swype capabilities on Android, but I am getting used to it. The keyboard does take a lot of real estate on the screen (as it does on Android) so if you are going to do a lot of typing, I would suggest a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for those times when you are at home or at the desk and can use them. The mouse also makes clicking on small items on the desktop and in apps more precise.

If you think an 8" screen will do for your needs, then I definitely think you should consider this unit.

I loaded VirtualBox and was considering running an Android-x86 implementation for the Android apps I may want to run, but I realized that most of what I like on Android works just fine on my phone. I did tinker with Suse in Virtual Box for a while, but realized I really didn't want it. I prefer using Cygwin, since what I like from Linux is command line oriented anyway, and no need to have a virtual envioronment for that.

I seem to be rambling a bit, but, in short, I like the unit. If you have any specific questions, just ask. I am more than happy to share my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion. I currently have a blackberry playbook which is 7" and I'm good with the screen size although I do wear my reading glasses when using it. So I'm use to not so many apps lol.

It's sounding like this little baby just might do it for me. Thanks.

I must have been in too big a hurry... i misread a couple of things. I have the Dell (not Toshiba) Venue (not Encore) pro. I am sorry for the confusion...

I would say so, since I still like mine, even though I got the name wrong. But I don't know the Toshiba, so I don't know how they compare... but the Dell is worth being considered for anyone looking for an 8 inch tablet.

Hey all! I'm new to this forum but was browsing through the topics and found this thread. I recently sold my Surface RT and two days ago I ordered a Dell Venue 8 Pro. I haven't gotten it yet but should be today or tomorrow. I was playing around with a Toshiba Encore the other day at BestBuy and was considering it but A) it comes with trial version of McAfee pre-installed which is kinda a headache I hear and B) it's $30 more than the Venue 8 Pro... Also I got the Venue 8 Pro for $279 on sale at Staples...

The other factor was that BestBuy doesn't seem to have the Encore in stock anyway, but my first choice still would have been the Dell. Can't wait for it to get here! I was considering the W4 and the Lenovo Miix 2 8 but the Lenovo also comes with McAfee pre-installed and the W4 is not available in stores around me plus it's heavier than the others I think.

I've been reading the reviews of the Dell and watching youtube videos of it and it seems like a solid choice. I'll let you all know what I think of it when I've had a chance to play around with it after it arrives.
