Solved Pc Crash While running ANY Game Or Editing Program

Ok, Now there is a lot to be said right now so bare with me. I'm going to start form the beginning. I had this problem where I would be presented with coloured screens and after 5 minuets on this screen I get my screens back but with coloured pixels on the screen and I cant seem to do anything at all to recover the pc apart from a hard shutdown. (there are Images of this attached) This happens when I recorded game footage or do some editing with Vegas or Camtasia Studio. This would happen after about 5 - 10 minuets. This was when the PC had Windows 7 Ultimate as its OS. The problem began to become more frequent until I came to the point that I could not record or render at all. I did a LOT if google searching of the problem and found that it could be low C:\ Space. so I checked. Yes I had low space on my disk I was down to 100gb out of 500gb. So I fitted a new 1TB Drive in the machine and put Windows 8 on it and then upgraded to 8.1. Hoping this would fix the problem or at least make it less common than before. Nope still the problem is occurring. I then came across a warning in my BIOS (when I was in there for other reasons) that my CPU was hitting High temperatures somewhere between 40 - 60 degrees C. I have very limited knowledge of CPU's and a standard running temperature is unfortunately one thing I don't know. I do understand that The Processes im trying to run use a lot of CPU power but I have been able to use them in the past. Just in the last few months I have not due to this problem.

I'm sorry I have said a lot here but I hope from this someone can help me out before I go and strip it down without a clue of what I'm looking for if its a physical problem with hardware.

If the pixels are not permanent it is most likely your video card (permanent is dead pixels in your monitor), the crashing could happen because the graphics card may not be seated properly. Also 40°C - 60°C for a stock cooling fan is okay, but if it gets any higher you might want to think about purchasing an aftermarket CPU cooler + case fans. With this said id suggest completely unplugging your computer (to be safe), take the side panel off and take out the GPU (video card) and RAM then re-seat them and make sure they're in good. Maybe clean your case fans too, that can help with the cooling.

You might also have some kind of virus but if you have an antivirus program you probably don't. Maybe check for registery errors + clean your computer with CCleaner, defragment your hard disk, then run a scan to make sure. Hope you get this problem fixed soon!

I will try everything you suggested with crossed fingers and see if the problem continues. But I have one more question would the CPU perhaps need some new Thermal Paste? again I'm not all to sure the life span on that is. Your are also correct about the Anti-Virus and I have bought a copy of Norton 360. I will do some cleans with that and also CCleaner to fix registry (If the program does that now). Plus my case needs some major cleaning and perhaps fit another fan.

sounds like you are doing a lot of intense computing ,more ram(4 gig not a lot for what you are doing ) and even a better power supply(350wat is kind of low in my opinion ) could help,just an opinion good luck

I'd go with caperjack's assessment but also would check GPU temperatures, it's also on a week side for so much of graphics on 2 monitors. Those symptoms also point to overloaded and overheated GPU. Dusting and cleaning of coolers would be a good begining too.

These responses have been Great and much appreciated I will look into all of these and post the results but with my current situation I may have to put off buying new hardware until after Christmas perhaps in the new year. but for now I am just going to have a massive cleaning overhaul and clean every fan and vent in site and just hope for the best. I do understand my low RAM situation, But I do have some replacement ones but I only have my motherboard only supports 2 Sticks and to make up 8GB I would have to fit 4 2GB Sticks (Which is all I have to spear.) for now as I said I will just need to clean it out and see the result

Also keep the case opened for a while, if there's not enough fans blowing thru the case it might help.

Yeah if you still have the stock thermal paste cleaning that off and adding something like arctic silver would help drop it about 5°C.

That looks like symptoms of bad gpu ram or overheating. I would check your gpu temps and possibly get a new psu as that gpu is kinda power hungry at load combined with your cpu. Look for a decent brand with a 80 bronze rating at least. Use something like ati afterburner to check your gpu temps.

Thanks to you all the problem seems to have been solved (at this moment that is) I cleaned a seated my GPU correctly and screwed it down (Wasn't before clearly a corner cut by me) I took of my CPU Fan I had a look it was solid dust filling all the gaps along the top of the Heat sink. I gave it a clean and put it back. all I need to do now is buy some aftermarket case fans and CPU plus new thermal paste what is on there shall do for now but needs to be replaced in the near feature. yeah always screw in the gpu if you don't gravity is just stressing it in the slot.
