The Dell Venus 8 Pro seems to be a winner

But what the Venue 8 Pro lacks in sizzle it makes up for in substance. At just under 400 g (about 14 ounces), with a Bay Trail Atom CPU (Z3740D, to be specific) it’s light, fast, extremely portable, and capable of running for a full day—long enough to keep you entertained and reasonably productive without weighing you down. At $299 (for the 32 GB version) or $349 (for 64 GB), it’s also unlikely to break your budget.

Looks promising and much more affordable than the Surface tablets.

There is a big argument on the web whether it has GPS or not. GPS would be nice but then is there really any decent Windows 8 navigation program. For Android, there are tons on the Google Playstore. I used a couple a few times and they are very handy to get you to and from unfamiliar places.

I would like to see more reviews on it. Also you need more accessories with it than the surface pro 2. When adding the keyboard and docking station it comes out over $300 more than the accessories for the surface Pro

The windows 8 version of them running with the atom processor seems sweeter than the Surface RT, but not when you compare the surface Pro with their version

I heard some rumors there is suppose to be a large discount for them on black Friday, so I am going to watch out for that too- online

Long before Android devices came along I was using Delorme's Street Atlas and MS Streets & Trips navigation software on my Windows laptop with external GPS. They aren't free but are full-featured. I just ordered a Venue 8 Pro and haven't received it yet so can't answer whether it has a internal GPS or not. If it doesn't, then I have a Bluetooth GPS receiver I can use with it should I decide I want to use the Venue for navigation. I already have a Nexus 7 tablet and a Android phone to use for navigation so it's not critical that the Venue fill that requirement.

Maybe you can clarify the GPS question for the Venus once you got it. Thanks.

PS: I use my Nexus 7 also for navigation. But I left it in Europe so a new device would help here in Florida. Unfortunately I did not see anybody offering it in the Black Friday ads this morning.

Could you clarify this post? What accessories so you "need", and how did you come up with them costing 300 MORE?

Yeah right, I would be interested too how you compile that number.

I already have a really nice Motorola BT keyboard with trackpad. I paid $69 but now they sell for $99. The 'docking station' for my Nexus 7 I paid $40.

It's funny, I cannot find the 64gb version on Dell's website, but I can find it in the Microsoft store. This is a great price point, it's almost compelling me to purchase it for myself.

On the Dell site, select the 32G model. Once selected you have the option of specifying you want 64G. I ordered the 64G model just the other day. Dell was having a pre-Black Friday sale and got the 64G tablet, Folio and stylus for $349, same price that TigerDirect is selling the tablet alone for in the link that whs posted. I also got free 2-day shipping and 1 yr Accidental Damage Warranty.

I compared the 128gig bit surface pro with the dell vend 11 pro- i5 processor- 4 gigs ram
the accessories for the
the venue pro is $849.90
surface pro $999
keyboard- same price on both- $129
the surface comes with the stylus- the venue does not- it is $29.99
this is what it is now but when I first looked at it- the original price was higher
there was a $100 difference between them- surface pro being less money

Dell came down in price- Microsoft did not

I still want to see more reviews on the dell one but there are none out there yet
Of course now the dell is $119 cheaper but then again I want to see how they face each ohter

I paid $349 shipped for the 64gb V8Pro from Newegg. This W8 touch is all new to me, I do have a little experience with touch from my SG3 and Kindle HD. I play around with Android, I rooted the SG3, but this W8 touch is knocking my socks off. I have a feeling the Kindle is ebay bound.

I just found out that the Venus 8 Pro does not have GPS. If you need/want GPS, buy this Lenovo Miix 2 8. It is practically the same at the same price.

Lenovo Miix 2 8 - Microsoft Windows

There is also a Toshiba which is similar but costs a bit more money..
