I recently discovered this event error dated 10/18/2013 which is about the time that I upgraded the BIOS and attempted to enable Secure Boot. Enabling Secure Boot worked as far as Windows 8.1 is concerned - eliminated watermark and Secure Boot event errors but the system boot process displayed NO VIDEO during POST and there were 6 beeps and power light flashed 6 times. HP Boot error codes indicates a problem with the video card (AMD Radeon HD 7500). If Secure Boot is turned off, everything works fine. I would like to understand why this event error was reported and how to correct the issue. Is the video hardware not compatible with UEFI and Secure Boot? Did keys get lost that allows Secure Boot to validate this hardware get removed? Although I am happy without Secure Boot, I would like the decision to use Secure Boot to be mine and not because something isn't working correctly.

It may be due your video card not supporting the GOP protocol which is a requirement for UEFI Secure Boot to function properly. Your graphics card may require a firmware/bios update so check with your manufacturer to see if one is available. You can also try to disable "ultra-fast boot" if enabled in the UEFI BIOS as I am not certain about all of the GOP requirements.

FYI here's are articles on a few manufacturers' progress to make these updates available:

Hope this points you in the right direction. Good luck.

Thank you for posting the informational links in your reply. Unfortunately, these were either dependent on specific motherboards for a particular vendors card. What I understand but haven't confirmed is the HD Radeon 7500 is an HP OEM card and therefore it would appear that I am at the mercy of HP to obtain the GOP UEFI VBIOS. I am going back to the HP Support Forum and trying again with different questions / wording to see if I can get this confirmed.

Thank you again for your reply.

That may or may not be the case. However, if they rebranded the card (which I seriously doubt), then they would be the first place to go; however, if they did not, then the original manufacturer is the place to start. So, let's see who is the true manufacturer of your card:

Download GPU-Z, unzip it, and run it. I'll bet you will find it is a brand name manufacturer that may have just provided a specific version for OEM use:

IMHO, the subvendor is responsible for the updates. Hope this additional information is helpful as well.

Good luck,

That's very interesting and I am quite surprised! So, maybe you were right and maybe that is the way (whoever) rebrands their cards to OEM System Builders? That is an unfortunate thing because I'm sure the update for retail would have worked on the OEM version as well. Moreover, the fact that your specific card was only identified as "7500 series" tells me that you were right and the only path for the update "is" via HP. Good luck and thanks for doing that test.
