Solved "Eject" Option Doesn't Work for ANY of My CD-ROM Drives??

Hello all, am running Win 8.1 Pro x64. Today I noticed that the "Eject" option from the right-click menu doesn't work for either of my 2 CD-Rom drives, nor for a "virtual" drive - I get the same error message on all 3: "An error occured while ejecting [drive]".

Device Manager shows no errors, and I've tried uninstalling the drives and rebooting, but error persists. Can anyone help?

Also, to be clear, it is NOT a physical problem with the drives, as I can open them without a problem through the buttons on the front.

Finally, if for some reason I can't fix this issue, does anyone know of a way to at least just DELETE the "Eject" from the context menu?

Just to try and determine if your context menu is corrupted, you could try and create a shotcut to open/close your CD tray. With that said, there are several freeware programs available to create these shortcuts so I would just google for:

how to create a shortcut to eject cd

Then pick one and try it out. I hve done this before; however, I can't remember which one I used but I think it was NirSoft.

Good luck.

Are these USB Optical drives? It may be confusing "Eject Device" with "Eject Disk" in the context menu.

You can download a small program called "EjectCD" - See if that helps

Nope, of the two physical drives one is a DVD-RW and the other is a BD-RE.

I would be fine with adding a new entry in the context menu, but if I had to go that route I would hate to leave the non-functioning Eject entry on the menu - any idea on how I can delete it? I've googled where in the registry the command is but haven't found anything.

I could show you how to correct that entry if it proven to be corrupted but I'm going to let the other responder show you how to fix that entry because I only gave you a general search reference and he gave you a specific method to try. With that said, I am sure he will follow up with specific instructions on how to delete (or repair) that entry in your context menu. Good luck.

you gotta download it from somewhere.

What is your point? Did you think I thought Nirsoft was the executable? Nirsoft makes nircmd:

NirSoft - freeware utilities: password recovery, system utilities, desktop utilities

Let's not start correcting each other please because I'm sure the OP knew exactly what I meant.

The point was, you said you couldn't remember what it was. It's Nircmd.exe. I was in the process of posting the exact same thing, but you beat me to is is all.

NirCmd - Windows command line tool

brz: Try the EjectCD tool, then you can just use that and ignore the Context Menu.

Scratch that EjectCD, it don't work. Use M2C's way instead.

I've just tried a program called CD Ejector and was able to get the drives to open through it, so I can confirm that the issue is with the context menu and not the drives. However, if you know of how to delete the non-functioning Eject entry I would appreciate the help - my OCD makes it hard for me to ignore stuff that doesn't work :)

Guy just install DAEMON tools lite, i had the same problem after mounted more than one virtual drive and daemon drivers solved em. (Mano instala o DAEMON tools lite, eu tive o mesmo problema depois de ter instalado mais de um drive virtual de cd e os drivers o daemon resolveram.)

Nope, of the two physical drives one is a DVD-RW and the other is a BD-RE.

Very strange, I just bought a new DVD-RW and a BD-RE drive because my current optical drives would not work properly - writing software would just lock up. The new drives worked the same as the old drives - not. I discovered that if I connect only one of the optical drives, everything works fine. So now I thought I have a faulty sata cable and connected them to different sata cables and ports. Both drives seem to be working right now however one of them seems to be doing something (the led flashes) every few minutes and when I right click the drive icon, the menu is very slow to open sometimes.

I do not think I have a virus, but I will do a full scan just in case. I am starting to think this may be a Windows OS bug.
