Solved Internal Drive intermittently disconnects

I've installed 8.1 on a PC from the store and then one of my three internal drives, my data drive, would intermittently connect/disconnect. I was not able to find a solution so I recovered my Win 8.0 installation from a backup and now everything works well again. I'll try to reinstall Win 8.1 in a few weeks - suspect it's a bug that Microsoft will eventually squash. I also Installed 8.1 on two laptops from the store with no problems - however they do not have additional internal drives.

Hi Mataek,

It may very well be a bug but I'm left wondering why it only affects one of your three drives? And since this is the first time I've personally run across this issue with an internal drive, I'm still left wonder if it could have something to do with that specific drive (or possibly a configuration issue that has an 8.1 bug). So, is there anything different about it? You might want to share the make/model number of the HD in question as well. And maybe throw in a screenshot of disk management too.

Thanks for the feedback. That was my original thought also except it worked well before I upgraded to Win 8.1 and again when I restored Win 8 from a backup. At any rate I think I've fixed the issue. I googled my problem and one of the threads I pulled up indicated that it may be a logon issue. When I first installed 8.1 I used a local account by bypassing the Microsoft Account that the installation asks for. So I reinstalled 8.1 from the store but this time I used my Microsoft Account and then changed it to a local account after the installation. Now all works well. Not sure why but it works. Drive in question is a WD7500AALX-009BA0

Me neither but glad you figured it out!
