Driver troubles after upgrade to Windows 8.1

I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of drivers that will work for my card. I have the Radeon HD 7690M XT. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the drivers did not install correctly. Drivers from AMD's website get me the "cannot be installed [...] incompatible hardware" error. The only drivers I can get to work are the one from HP (note: They are listed as for "Windows 8" not "8.1"...possible problem?) but they are really old, and I would like newer drivers for gaming.

I have used AMD's driver removal utility to completely get rid of the driver before installing the updated ones, that didn't work either...

Anyone know what I can do?

Thanks a million.

What model? Is it a switchable laptop, you can use either Intel graphics or dedicated?

OK, install the latest HP driver that does work. Never mess with the Intel graphics driver again after that, it is the pipeline.

Now, download the latest AMD MOBILE driver. Use Device Manger to update the AMD driver only, pointing to the folder you extracted the AMD mobile driver to.

That sounded like it would work, sadly it did not.

I downloaded these Mobility drivers, since the AMD website only give a 1mb "verification tool" and not the actual drivers:

AMD Catalyst 13.11 BETA1 (13.200.16.0 September 26) Download

I then extract the drivers > go to device manager > update drivers of 7690m > point it towards the correct folder.

After installation, device manager changes the card from Radeon 7690M to "Radeon 6700M Series". It then also causes the (!) symbol next to the Intel drivers, which means it probably screwed them up too even though I left them alone...
