Hi,

So I am posting this as I am struggling to find the information I am looking for through google searches but my problem is this. I am considering buying a tablet but what I really want it for and what I'm not sure is possible is;

Would I be able to integrate a Windows 8 tablet with my windows 8 PC? I want to have all the touch fun and ease of use but with it basically working as a remote for the pc. Like the computer is doing all the processing and software running and the tablet is basically a replacement for my mouse and keyboard whilst also offering a display if I leave the room or such.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul and welcome to Eight Forums!

If I understand you correctly you basicly are looking for a device to control your destop pc with touch. But you also want to be able to take it like a tablet with you.

Well...I guess the closest thing that comes into view is the Surface Pro 2. I myself just started using one. See this thread for a documentation about my first experience with it ==> http://www.eightforums.com/tablet-t...st-experience-surface-pro-2-a.html#post282752

  • With the Surface Pro 2 you can remotely take control of your desktop pc. That way your desktop does the computing, but you see and control it via the Surface Pro 2 tablet. You basicly can take control of your desktop pc from wherever you are! (as long as your pc is running Windows 8 PRO version!)

I must say that buying a Surface Pro 2 only to control your desktop pc is a waste of money. The Surface Pro 2 is so much more!

Some cheaper and perhaps better alternatives might be:
  • A touch enabled screen for your desktop. That way you can use touch on your desktop by directly tapping the screen.
  • A Wacom tablet inputdevice for your desktop. This device has pen input as well as touch input. It is basicly a mouse replacement.

I hope my advice is usefull to you. Feel free to ask if you've got any more questions.

Greetz,

Rover

Hi there
If you are using Android devices why not try something like this

Gmote > Android Remote

Although this is more for multi-media playing etc I'm sure there are equivalent things out there -- IMO a small tablet to actually PERFORM typical PC applications just isn't worth it -- fine for remote batch things like starting / stopping VM's / multi media services etc - but would you really want to run photoshop on a 7 inch tablet - or even a Surface Pro.

Cheers
