i want to remove dell touchpad permanently from my inspiron 17r 5721 OS: windows8
the darn thing jumps all over while typing and it has made me not even want to use my computer it is so obnoxious. It deletes my typed info and opens windows ...
I tried to remove and uninstall but it just keeps putting it back on and refuses to stay closed.
I have tried to reduce sensitivity and do everything recommended to resolve this by adjusting through the driver / device manager/ etc....
right now I have it fully uninstalled and it is still running! what the heck can i do?

NOTHING WORKS!!!

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, try a different version of touchpad driver, even if it's for another make of laptop, do you have 16.3.7.0, if it is try a previous version and see whether it fixes the problem.

I had tried these before and I tried it again ... it still does the same thing brummyfan. It is a nightmare!
I cannot adjust the sensitivity down enough. I want to remove all mice except my MS Sculpt if that is possible.

a view of hidden devices in device manager.JPG this is a view showing hidden devices ... why are all these others still in here? I uninstall and they lurk in the system.
you can see the touchpad is not showing here, however the program remains on the system despite attempts to delete it...

when i open Mouse i can clearly see the touchpad and open the settings for the touchpad. but shutting buttons to off does not fix it either :(dell touchpad.JPG

I'm sorry to be a pest but I am feeling defeated by this darn problem....

Can you find out whether it's Synaptics touchpad, it may be a dell touchpad with Synaptics driver made for them,
can you right click the touchpad, select properties and find out the driver version.

well now I have the dell touchpad gone but the problem remains ... the pad is still active but no longer a device?
I could scream ... but I won't!
Now the problem continues with the jumpy cursor that highlights, deletes, opens new window, moves to previously typed text. it is maddening ...
I hate to think this laptop is just a very expensive paperweight...
Truly it was insulting enough the drastic and not fantastic changes with the win 8 os but this takes the cake y'all :(

Could you be able to do a system restore to a point when it was working well? Remove the Dell touchpad in Programs & Features reboot, Windows will install the generic drivers, if that doesn't help, re-install the dell drivers, you need to be patient and it can be rectified, have you got any third party programs installed? It's getting late over here, I'll see your replies in the morning.

You could try disabling or uninstalling the ESET smart security and use Windows Defender for security, mostly these third party security programs create problems in Windows 8.

typing all this is horrible torture using this machine!

i am listening and paying attention to your troubleshooting carefully and with respect
i hope you are listening to me :)

I have found a newer driver, uninstall the current driver from Programs and features, reboot and install this driver and see whether it helps ( hope you have uninstalled ESET, at least temporarily).

well go ahead and force me off the forum then... you don't want to honestly answer my question! instead run me in circles.
I came here asking for help on how to fully disable the touchpad and you want it to work instead.
I won't be a bother any further.
have a great day

You need to be patient to resolve a problem, believe me, I'm trying my best to help you, the touchpad you got came with the laptop and you need to make it work better for you, you can remove it by uninstalling if you want, then OS will install the generic drivers and you will end up with less functionality. Anyone else with your make of laptop might help you or you could also try a dell community, Good luck.
