I would just like to check and make sure I have this correct. I have the following HD and feel they should be setup like this.

Disk 0
C: - Primary
D: - Extended

Disk 1
F: - Extended

Now this is where I am not sure

Disk 2 - USB Portable Drive
G: - ? (I would think also Extended but I see it came out the box as a Primary)

Hi Dirtrider,

I am not sure what your ultimate goal is here but there is no need to set up any partition structure in advance of installing Windows 8. In fact, you could install a blank hard drive and Windows would automatically setup the correct partition structure for you. The only thing you would have to do is make sure the drive is unallocated (all partitions deleted) and then click next during the installation. Then, after the install, you could deal with the USB drive which should probably be setup as a simple volume drive.

The thing is I did the upgrade from 7 and this is how my drives were setup (see attached). What I was worried about is that it being setup as primary drives it may slow down the boot up but seeing only my C: is set to boot drive I was not sure

Your second post explains you situation and concern a bit better than the first alone. However, I don't like the structure as I see it because there is no system reserved partition. Anyway, I am going to leave this issue to a few brighter minds (than mine) and I am sure they will be along shortly to assist you. Good luck.

Well I also thought they were ok until I read here some place that you should not have more than one Primary as it will slow down the boot up. So this is what made me ask about it but I will rather just leave it as it is now.
