Does Not matter which windows 8 tablet
Shut down the OS when not being used it will save you about 50% battery usage
I tested this on the Asus and surface pro tablets and it worked on both
The OS uses a lot of battery even in sleep and hibernate mode on these tablets
Also it will behave better, should the battery run out before you shut it down I found on Both units, Windows 8 had a fit

I'm sure you're right about letting the battery run all the way out being not good but no way am I going to shut down my Win 8 tablet 15-30 a day rather than let it just go into sleep mode! I also wouldn't do that with my laptop. You might save little on battery especially on a battery hog like the Surface Pro but on my Ativ 500t I took it off charge 5 hours ago and have used it lightly on and off for the past 5 hours and it still shows 85%. I'm also not sure how healthy it is for the system to turn on/off several times a day, 7 days a week, etc... Just my opinion.

if your battery is draining a lot while in sleep mode, I would check/update your drivers and the sleep settings for those devices. network devices, wireless devices, bluetooth, etc. are notorious battery users and all it takes is a poor driver to cause problems.

Well you are right about shutting it off more than once a day, this is basically if you a heavy user and you find that you are at 30% or less, then it is better to shut down the OS, once you shut down the OS like a laptop the unit shuts off als

Sorry if you misunderstood, I agree you should not be shutting it down and turning it off every few hours, that can cause problems. But when you are all done with it for the day, then I would shut it down overnight, because you might wake up to a dead battery.

The asus battery only last 8.5 hours so if it runs down to like 30% and you are going to sleep, then you should shut it down

They do not recommend when it it is fully charged to leave it plugged in, so if you are going to sleep, you should shut the 0s down ( we do sleep more than 8 hours) This way it is not sitting there overnight going down down down to nothing. When you wake up or ready to use it again, you can charge it up

Funny the iPad holds the battery much better than the asus, I am betting Windows 8 runs more stuff in the background then apples pads
My client has the acer windows 8 tablet and he says his battery does what mine does, when doing nothing it holds a full charge but when he is busy doing stuff within 2 hours it drops to 60%.

I could do a heck on my iPad and it will drop maybe 10 % in 2 hours

No problem I understand now you were basically talking at nights. I may regret it, I hope I don't, but I'm going to follow the same charging procedures that I've used successfully with my iPad and Android tablets for the past 3 plus years. I plug my tablet in to the charger and let it charge all night long. It may not be suggested but even on my son's 2 1/2 year old iPad 1 the battery life seems to be as good today as it was when it came new outta the box.

Hopefully a tablet battery like the Ativ with it's 10 hour life will work and charge more like an iPad than the 3-4 hour battery of the Surface Pro which seems more geared to operate like a useless laptop battery that needs to be replaced every 6-12 months.

Time will tell!

You can not compare iPads or Android Tablets in any way, shape or form to any Windows 8 Pro Tablet or RT Tablet really.

They are as different as oranges and sheet metal.

Why? Because (Speaking for the Surface Pro specifically) i5 CPU and Intel 4000 Graphics among other things.

I get roughly 4 hours solid use and moderate use about 2 days on my Surface Pro.

I was referring to the type of batteries that they use and so my point was that a lot of laptop batteries tend to start out as a 3 hour battery but 6 months to a year later one is lucky to get an hour out of it! This does not seem to be the same by any stretch of the imagination for any of the iPad or Android tablets that I've owned and therefore I'm hoping that my Windows tablet's battery will function the same!

So even though they are as different as oranges and sheet metal, some things are quite the same or very close...... gorilla glass, tablet sizes, weights, ports, basic functionalities, so I think if you re-read my post you'll see I wasn't really comparing anything except their batteries!

Well, that is one of the reasons that no batteries come with more than a 1 year warranty.

But, you still can't compare them as the Windows 8 Tablets are far more robust and use energy completely differently.
You might be able to give some comparison with RT in this regard, but even that is a slight bit of a stretch.

Ipad's and Android Tablets by comparison are Stone and Chisel tablets to a Windows 8 Pro Tablet.

Not necessarily the Windows 8 Pro tablets running the Atom processors like my Samsung Ativ 500t which gets a solid 10 hours battery life every day! And yes it is Windows 8 Pro and not an RT.

But again I'm not sure all the fuss as I'm just talking battery endurance.

My Asus was not holding the battery at all. I returned it to best buy. Got a new one and this one holds the battery in use about 8hrs and fully in sleep mode. The other one was holding it for 3 hers. Tops!! the other one must have been defective
