Solved reset button

I've recently upgraded my case to a full tower Thermaltake OverSeer RX 1 which has this reset button on it, which I've not experienced before. What is it for?

I did some Google searches which left me asking more questions as to what the reset button is actually for. I've read that is for a soft or hard restart or reboot of the system. If that's the case, what's the point of having a restart option in the OS. Some clear concise definition or explanation to help clear this up

The reset button basically just does a hard restart of the computer.

The reset button is not the same as the Windows restart option. The Windows restart does an orderly termination of processes and then starts Windows. The reset button does a forcible and immediate termination of all process with no opportunity for a an orderly shutdown. Some form of data loss is more than possible.This a rather drastic step and should be reserved for times when a normal shutdown is not possible. It is somewhat better than pulling the plug but not much.
