Surface Pro

I've just spotted the the surface pro is finally on sale in the UK

So I start the order process 128GB Surface Pro £799 ($1215).......Touch cover/keyboard £99.99 ($152).....Charger £64.99 ($99).

Ok it was all very expensive already buy $99 for a charger that should come with it is taking the piddle, the markup must be at least $95 and just shows that they are out the rip the customer off for as much as they can.

The $100 charger thing has annoyed my enough to have made my mind well and truly up that I certainly wont be making this purchase.

Why is it even a separate item? I'm assuming you could recharge it via USB, but still? Every laptop you buy comes with a charger.

I could understand to a point that they want to cut the cost of it as much as possible by making everything an accessory so that people that don't need them do not have to pay for them anyways. However, $99 for a charger is outrageous.

For £799 ($1200) a charger should be included not a £65 ($99) optional extra, tbh for that price the keyboard cover should be.

Hmmm, the one purchased in the US from the Microsoft store came with a wall charger, it was $999 for the 128gb model over here.

I don't blame you for not buying it though. I would have massive buyers remorse if I would have personally purchased the surface.

At those prices I agree. This is just plain milking more money out of would be customers.

I agree. $99 for a charger is ridiculous. The markup is ridiculous. Adding it as a "hidden" extra is ridiculous, especially that Patrick stated he got it included with his purchase here in the U.S.

This must have been quite disappointing for you, John, since I noticed You were looking forward to it.

A few questions:

Was this on Microsoft Online Store or their brick and mortar store?

Are the prices you quoted before taxes, such as sales tax and/or any British import tax?

How about shipping if applicable?

If these are the prices in Britain, I'd hate to see what they'll be in Austrailia. Yikes!

I've just seen my very first Surface Pro ad on TV here in Aus. A chain electronics store whose advertising is usually very
much in-your-face has them (Harvey Norman, for you other Aussies), but its advertising is very subdued and tame.

No hoopla at all. Doesn't look as if they're pushing it at all hard.

I'll go and have a look at them, though, even though I'm not in the market for one. This one cost me A$2599 but it so far outperforms just about anything else around, laptop-wise, that it was worth it. An A$1100 tablet couldn't substitute for it.

As for charging $99 for a charger as an extra, I mean c'mon already! That's so OTT it isn't funny.

There has to be some other reason behind this.
Here in the USA, I just bought 2 Surface Pros from Best Buy and they both have the chargers included, in the box, not a separate item.

BTW, I love my Surface Pro.

Every sales region has its own corporation, and each corporation has leeway on packaging and marketing. Just like there's Sony Computer Entertainment of America, there's Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe. They all talk and coordinate with each other but each division runs wholly and independently.

I hear that Australians routinely get screwed on consumer products. sucks for them.

Even in Australia though, we get a charger in the box with the Surface Pro

I recently bought mine here in Luxembourg.

It came with a charger included in the package.

Something doesn't smell right with your supplier in "Rip-Off" Britain! Who did you order it from?
