Update drivers on transplated HD

I have installed a Dell HD with Win 7 into a new Gateway tower which ran Win 8, and have removed the original Gateway HD. I successfully booted from the Dell HD, but, of course, due to what I expect are driver issues I cannot get passed the Windows screen without the system restarting.

Is there a way to install all necessary GATEWAY drivers onto the DELL HD while it is still in the DELL, so that when I transfer it into the Gateway it can at least boot to the desktop?

I know this arrangement is a little ridiculous, but I need all the programs on the Dell HD so formatting it is not an option. Thanks.

Yes I just did this this past weekend in fact...

First get the chipset and other drivers for your NEW system and put them in a folder on your harddrive and call it GatewayDrivers ( or whatever)

Make sure you download your ethernet driver or wireless driver first and label it, you will need this above all else!

Put the old harddrive into the new tower

start your computer in safemode with networking

Install your ethernet or wireless driver

install as many drivers for the missing devices, it may not let you do all, theres an order that it may want, and theres no real way to know which.. Skip the ones that wont install, well get to them later...

Download slim drivers ( its free ) and scan your system and start installing its recommended updates..

reboot in normal mode, install the rest of the drivers, and you should be done...

Then install windows updates..

Hopefully it goes as easily for you as it was fort me..

Great thanks, very helpful. The one issue though is that I can't boot past the Windows logo. I'm wondering if you transferred the HD from two different PC brands like I did, or from a Win 7 to a Win 8? Or will simply having the chipset driver anywhere on the Dell HD enable windows to find it and thus allow me to boot to the desktop?
